SV: For those who do not know, could you please introduce yourself?
DV: I’m a fashion designer with a Men’s bespoke tailoring background and a fashion degree from FIT, New York.
SV: Tell us a bit more about your brand – Dhruv Vaish!
DV: The Dhruv Vaish is a Menswear brand, which started in 2009, where we make timeless garments for men which is a unique amalgamation of: ethnic in craftsmanship, contemporary in styling, international in spirit, painstaking in construction and eclectic in soul.
SV: When did you decide that you wanted to dive into the world of
fashion? How has the journey been so far?
DV: During my college Days at Hansraj when I used to help my dad every day in his menswear store. That’s when I realized that there is so much more that can be done. It’s been a lot of hard work along with a lot of fun.
SV: Does your work also speak of your personal style? What does style mean to you?
DV: My work is a more elaborate version of my personal style. Style for me is a reflection of a person’s personality. You can tell a lot about a person just by their style of dressing.
SV: What materials and fabrics do you enjoy working with the most?
DV: I normally like using solid pure fabrics because it allows me to do a lot more with it as it doesn’t have much going on already.
SV: What inspires you the most about fashion designing?
DV: The endless concepts and designs waiting to be explored.
SV: Your store – Dhruv Vaish is located right in the heart of the capital adjacent to the Green Park market. Do you think location plays a major role in getting and retaining clients by any brand?
DV: Your location can only get you some initial clients, but it’s your work which gets them back and makes them send more clients. If a client is satisfied, then they will come anywhere.
SV: Where do you think the Indian fashion industry for men is headed? Do you think there is a change in men’s choices now?
DV: The men’s fashion in India has only just started evolving and there is a long way to go. Unlike earlier Indian men have now started embracing traditional Indian outfits a lot more now and with all the constant modernization the Indian Men’s designers will become more globally present than ever.
SV: Do you think there should be more opportunities during Fashion weeks (which we have a lot many now), to promote men’s fashion In India?
DV:I feel that the Mens fashion industry is not big enough as yet to have its own fashion week and should be clubbed and encouraged at the womens fashion week till it grows big enough.
SV: There are a bundle of talented fashion designers that out country is blessed with. Who are your favorites?
DV: Rohit Bal for his eternal style, Tarun Tahiliani for constantly pushing the boundaries and Pankaj & Nidhi for their eclecticism.
SV: What type of attire has the prime space reserved in your wardrobe?
DV: Casual fun clothing.
SV: What advice do you have for young fashion enthusiasts and aspiring fashion designers in the country?
DV: Fashion is like a work of art and an artist is good only if his work sells.
Very interactive. Keep up the good work 👍🏼👌🏼👏🏻
