After leaked renders of the Pixel 9 series, it appears that the Google Pixel Fold 2 is also adopting the trend of a “prominent camera bump,” as evident in newly leaked images of an early prototype of Google’s upcoming foldable device.
Google Pixel Fold 2 – All You Need To know
Recent reports have unveiled initial details about Google’s second foldable phone. Allegedly, the Google Pixel Fold 2 is expected to forgo a processor generation and instead feature the upcoming Tensor G4 chip. This new chip is anticipated to be coupled with a groundbreaking 16 GB of RAM, marking a noteworthy advancement for Pixel phones.
In a recent report by Android Authority, we get our initial glimpse of what is likely to be this year’s Google Pixel Fold 2. The most striking feature revealed is the redesigned camera bump, departing from the Pixel Fold’s bar shape to a rounded rectangle protruding from the top-left corner. This design strongly echoes the camera arrangement initially leaked for the Pixel 9 series.

The Pixel Google Fold 2’s array of camera sensors appears to be quite similar to those on the first-generation foldable, albeit rearranged. Additionally, it’s noteworthy that the temperature sensor found in the Pixel 8 Pro, set to return with the Pixel 9 Pro, is still conspicuously absent in Google‘s second Fold.

The initial Pixel Fold featured a compact and super-wide form factor, setting it apart from other foldable devices. However, for its successor, Google appears to be taking a significantly different approach. The new design showcases a much taller aspect ratio, resembling that of the OnePlus Open, described by Android Authority’s source as “closer to a square.”
An evident change is also observed in the hinge, now bearing a striking resemblance to the one utilized by OnePlus, at least as per the details available in this image. It’s worth noting that while Google’s form factor maintains extreme rounding around the corners, OnePlus and Samsung have opted for more squared-off designs.
Given that this device is reportedly still in the prototype phase, it’s essential to approach every visible detail with caution. However, it’s worth noting that Google has opted for matte materials for the Google Pixel Fold 2 hinge, a departure from the polished metal used in the first Fold. This choice helps obscure the hinge when the phone is unfolded.
Following the release pattern observed with last year’s Pixel Fold, there’s anticipation for the Pixel Fold 2 to launch in the summer, possibly being unveiled at Google I/O 2024. The reported inclusion of a Tensor G4 chip, along with design cues seen in the Pixel 9 series, suggests that the Pixel Fold 2 might become part of this fall’s Made by Google lineup.
