After the resounding success achieved with the 4WD and RWD editions of the Thar, Mahindra is poised to unveil a potentially stellar addition to its lineup – the 5-door Thar. Set to make its debut as the Mahindra Thar Armada, this eagerly anticipated model is scheduled for release in August, with recent revelations shedding light on its specifications.

Mahindra Thar 5 Door Details
The Thar 5 Door is projected to boast an extended length, approximately 300 mm longer than its 3-door counterpart, which measures at 3,985 mm. This increased wheelbase aligns it with compact SUVs such as the Creta, Seltos, and Maruti Grand Vitara. Depending on pricing and features, the 5-door Thar may attract a substantial consumer base, potentially rivaling traditional compact SUVs. As Mahindra currently lacks representation in the compact SUV segment, specific configurations of the 5-door Thar could be strategically crafted to compete directly with popular models in this category.
Mahindra Thar 5 Door Design
While the Armada Thar exhibits an augmented size, its overall silhouette closely mirrors that of the 3-door model, with primary modifications concentrated on the front and rear sections. Notable changes include a subtly redesigned front grille. Additionally, features like LED headlamps, DRLs, and LED fog lamps maintain consistency with the 3-door variant.
The side profile is now adorned with extra doors and C-pillar-mounted rear door handles. Premium variants are slated to sport 19-inch wheels, an enhancement from the 18-inch units on the 3-door model. Furthermore, top-spec models may incorporate premium features like a 360-degree camera.
Mahindra Thar 5 Door Interior
Several interior features, including the steering wheel, storage compartments, and sunroof, are borrowed from the Scorpio N. Elements such as the dashboard and switchgear remain unchanged from the 3-door model. The Armada Thar boasts a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Depending on the variant, users can choose between a black and brown color scheme or an all-black interior.
The Thar Armada sports a full metal roof complemented by a single-pane sunroof. Noteworthy amenities include rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry, engine auto start/stop, hill descent control, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rear AC vents, and front and rear armrests. The second-row seats offer a 60:40 split option, anticipating an expansion in boot space.
Mahindra Thar 5 Door Engine Details
Powering the Mahindra Thar 5 Door, the Armada is expected to feature upgraded versions of the 2.0-liter petrol and the 2.2-liter diesel engines. Additionally, Mahindra may explore the inclusion of the 1.5-liter diesel engine to cater to a more affordable price range. The official launch is expected in Q3 of 2024, aligning with the festive season.
