With its pristine white sand beaches and bright blue ocean, the Maldives is one of the world’s most photogenic holiday destinations and one which promises luxury and romance. Located southwest of India, it is actually an archipelago comprising over 1,000 islands surrounded by lagoons and coral.
The Maldives offers a magical experience to visitors as they have focused on providing a relaxing escape from the world rather than opening up to mass tourism. However, that does not mean that there isn’t much to do. There are activities for all types of travellers, from honeymooning couples to thrill-seekers and everyone in between.
These are the reasons you should seriously consider making the Maldives your next holiday destination.
- Live in luxury: All the finer things in life are awaiting those who make the journey to the Maldives. Even nature is at its best here, with year-round sunshine and warm weather as well as some of the most stunningly beautiful beaches to be found anywhere in the world. As for the accommodation, well you’ve probably seen some of it already. Pictures of resorts such as the Pullman Resort Maldives often appear in articles about peaceful spots to get away from it all, with their wooden villas built out over the crystal clear sea. As many of these resorts really are out of the way, they also tend to be all-inclusive.
- Fine dining: The Maldives may not be one of the cheapest places to live, or even to stay for a while, but this does not mean you are not getting value for your money. This is especially the case when it comes to food, with many resorts having Michelin starred chefs preparing their menus. The staple diet on the islands, as you might expect, is fish, seafood, and rice. But the resorts offer a diverse range of dishes from all over the world.
- Diving: If you are willing to venture out a bit further from those beautiful white sand beaches, the Maldives is also one of the world’s great diving locations. Super clear warm water, plenty of coral and a range of sea creatures including whale sharks, turtles, and manta rays, it is easy to see why it has earned an international reputation as a top scuba diving spot. Much of the underwater life can also be enjoyed with just a snorkel, too.
- Spa: For those looking to pamper themselves and relax instead, there are plenty of wonderful and rejuvenating spa experiences around to choose from. There is something for everyone, from yoga overlooking the ocean to couple’s massages and private pampering in your own personal spa room. You can expect to find all the latest treatments and techniques from around the world, as well as nature-inspired local treatments.
- Multiple stops: The proximity to Asia and the Maldives’ connectivity make it a great place to spend some time as part of a longer trip encompassing multiple countries.
Most people opt for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, but Dubai, India, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia are all very accessible from there.
