The runway beauty, who has been rocking the industry for the past four years with a boom stands poise and sophistication as her exuberant personality takes over the conversation with her passion about the recent demand by the and MP of France o impose a ban on anorexic models, As I got the chance to take the Bangalore beauty’s opinion on the matter (among other things!) Here’s how the talk went,
AS: For those who don’t know you, can you tell them a little bit about yourself?
AK: I’m Archana, I am a fun-loving person that loves meeting people, I also love going out and nature. I love animals and I love making a lot of friends. I’ve been modeling for about 1.5 years in Mumbai and 2 years before that in Bangalore.
AS: Didn’t you also walk or the Lakme Fashion Week recently?
AK: Yes in fact just landed this week and it’s been a marathon for me as I just and that’s what’s got me so tired.
AS: How is it that you manage such back-to-back shows and yet keep fit?
AK: Simply by eating right.
AS: Body image has been a historic issue when it comes to modeling and career, it’s always a stigma attached to the industry about being stick thin. What’s your take as a model on this?
AK: I think it’s a good thing and I’m happy for the ban to have taken place, as it sets a bad example for the girls who’re growing up, as they just don’t eat, since they follow so many models that are skinny.
AS: How do you think this can be controlled? What do you think is being done wrong?
AK: Models should have a basic minimum weight. They should really be healthy from the inside. Body Mass Index (BMI) is very important, you know your bones should be healthy because lack of calcium is a concern because it is easy to have a fall and break your bone, so you need to have a lot of calcium as well as a good balanced diet,
AS: What about the diet regime that models actually follow?
AK: Some are skinny because they have those super genes, and it comes naturally to them, yet some models I’ve heard of, in France particularly, live on one orange for lunch and one apple for breakfast and no dinner or milk, and everything is substituted with low diet and sugar free, which by the is one of the worst. Rather than that, going for natural sugars is a better idea in my opinion, instead of skipping sugar all together.
AS: Away from all the fitness talk, how many shows do you have today?
AK: I’ve walked today for two designers, Natasha and Payal Singhal, and now we’re going for the final show today, which is JJ.
AS: What kind of involvement do the designers ask of you as their models for the show?
AK: We need to step up to it and carry the garment well, we need to not look tired or show the fatigue in us so we try to look our best on stage.
AS: Which show has been your favorite among the line up of day one?
AK: Definitely, Rajesh Pratap Singh’s set up was amazing, I didn’t walk his show today, which is why I’m feeling a little sad but there are so many other shows ahead this week, so looking forward to each one.
