Finding motivation nowadays can be quite tricky, even though it’s extremely important.
Whether you work from home as a freelancer or in a company with your own cubicle or office, keeping your workspace just the way you want it can seriously enhance your productivity and do wonders for your motivation.
That is why investing time into achieving this is as important as the actual work that you do. If you feel that your workspace is not motivating enough – you’re doing something wrong.
Luckily, we’ve come up with the top tips for creating a unique and motivating workspace, so if you have any difficulties, try the following.
Get a computer
Investing in a desktop computer is a great way to work at home on your own schedule. They are more powerful and come with more features than any laptop, which makes them great for office productivity or graphic design.
Even if you have a fast internet connection, it’s not always reliable enough for Microsoft Word and other large programs that you need for serious work. A reliable desktop computer will give you the opportunity to multitask with ease, so your tasks can be done faster and better.
Make it distraction-free
One of the most important things that you need to do is make your workspace distraction-free as, obviously, you want no distractions while you’re working on an important project.
We already have plenty of things that distract our mind, in the form of social networks on our laptops, tablets and phones (which cost us around 5-8 hours of work per week). Make sure to keep your walls clean and simple.
Don’t keep a lot of photographs and details – they will only make clutter and it might be difficult for you to concentrate on the actual job. Even though it’s nice to have a view, make sure that you don’t see any people from your window – a view of the sky and trees is going to do the work.
Make it green
Even though we explicitly said no to a lot of details, you definitely need to have several plants in your workspace and on your desk.
Make sure to use plants that are flowerless, as these go better with the ambiance. However, as not all of us are plant people, there’s a good solution to this – make sure to choose several beautiful artificial flowers that look extremely realistic, and there you go.
You won’t have any obligation to water them, and they look so real that nobody will notice they are artificial. If you’re choosing plants for the corner of your workspace, you can go with certain larger ones. For example, monstera plants are very popular right now and aesthetically quite pleasing, so you can go with either that or something similar.
Make it bright
If you’re already designing your workspace, don’t save on the lighting, as this plays a big role in any scenario. Everyone feels much more motivated while they’re working in a light space instead of a dim one, so if the nature of your job requires you to work late at night, choose great white neon lights.
However, if you’re working only during the day, nothing beats natural light, so instead of spending money on unnecessary lamps and such, choose a place for your desk that gets plenty of sunlight.
Make it cozy
Furniture is everything, and the best way to make your working space cozy is by introducing certain lounge furniture pieces.
However, if you’re going to spend most of your time on your laptop, it’s better to invest in a good and comfortable chair instead of a lazy bag or a couch.
A comfortable chair can do wonders – you will quickly see how your productivity levels rise, and your bottom will be extremely thankful. Moreover, invest in a good and spacious desk.
These are always important, regardless of the amount of details you have. Minimalism is extremely popular nowadays, and choosing a spacious white desk to match your plain white walls is a great way to achieve just that.
Keep it clean
Even though it’s last on our list, it doesn’t mean that it’s the least important. Decluttering your workspace once a week is very crucial – it will continue to make your office minimalistic and filled with only the essentials. If you have a fridge nearby, make sure to throw away everything that’s from last week.
Moreover, clean your floors, windows (especially if they’re big) and desk at least once a week. If you don’t have time for this, you can always hire somebody to do it for you.
Working in a clean space is really good for your motivation, and it will definitely keep your mind off the thought that you work in a dirty or untidy space.
As you can see, it’s not difficult to create a motivational working space. Just make sure to include only the essentials for your profession or job, keep it light and make it comfortable for yourself!
