Samsung recently hosted its Unpacked event to introduce a significant smartphone revelation. Please welcome the latest additions to the lineup: the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra.

However, Samsung had more than just smartphones in store. Alongside the unveiling of the next-gen phones, the company introduced Galaxy AI—a collection of AI-powered tools tailored to complement these cutting-edge devices. Additionally, Samsung surprised the audience with the revelation of an entirely new product.

Galaxy AI took center stage at Samsung Unpacked, overshadowing the new Galaxy S phones momentarily—although we’ll delve into those shortly.

This innovative suite, Galaxy AI, introduces a range of AI-powered functionalities across all three of Samsung’s latest phones, extending compatibility to select Android devices.

One of the standout features presented by Samsung is real-time voice translations during phone calls. Users not only receive on-screen text translations but also benefit from an AI voiceover providing verbal translations during the call. Moreover, AI-powered translations extend to text messages, automatically converting texts when users send and receive them.

During Unpacked, Samsung showcased several enhancements to its Samsung Notes application, including a feature that tidies up messy handwriting for more legible note-taking. The Note Assist function takes quickly typed notes and autoformats them into well-organized summaries with easy-to-read bullet points.

Furthermore, Samsung demonstrated its new AI-powered photo and video capabilities, encompassing features such as AI-driven HDR, nightography, and video stabilization. Notably, Samsung collaborated with Instagram to introduce HDR-enabled photos to the platform.

A standout among the AI features is the AI generations function within the image editor. This unique photo editing tool can intelligently fill in out-of-frame visuals and incorporate objects into the picture using AI. It’s important to note that when employing these features, Samsung adds a watermark to the photo and includes metadata labeling to signify that the content contains AI-generated elements.

Additionally, Samsung collaborated with YouTube sensation MrBeast to showcase the ultra zoom capabilities of the new Samsung Galaxy S24 camera. The video also highlighted how seamlessly AI can edit photos. MrBeast further demonstrated Samsung’s Quickshare feature, allowing swift transmission of full-resolution images and other files across all Android devices and PCs.

Google and Circle to Search At Samsung Unpacked

In addition to its proprietary AI capabilities, Samsung has collaborated with Google to integrate the search giant’s AI models into Samsung smartphones and various other Android devices.

A notable announcement from Google during the Samsung event was the introduction of the Circle to Search feature.

Making its way to the Samsung Galaxy S24 lineup and select Android devices, this feature allows users to execute searches by simply circling, highlighting, scribbling, or tapping an object on their screen. Whether using text, photos, or videos displayed on their device, users can initiate searches in a seamless manner. For instance, if a user spots a shirt worn by their favorite creator that they wish to purchase, they can effortlessly hold the Home button, circle the shirt, and a Google search will automatically retrieve relevant results, including information on where to purchase the shirt.

Furthermore, Samsung disclosed that several of its AI features, such as translations, will seamlessly integrate with Google’s phone-to-car service, Android Auto.

Taking center stage in Samsung’s smartphone lineup is the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This flagship model continues the tradition of being the most potent among Samsung’s Galaxy phones.

Equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile chipset, the Galaxy S24 Ultra promises exceptional performance. Benchmark tests have even suggested that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 outpaces Apple’s swift M1 chipset, adding an intriguing dimension to the device’s capabilities.

Maintaining its predecessor’s size at 6.8 inches, the Galaxy S24 Ultra features a QHD display. The Android device boasts a sophisticated camera setup, including a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 200MP wide camera, a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. With the addition of the 12MP front camera, users have a total of 5 cameras at their disposal, ensuring a versatile photography experience.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra will be offered in storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB. It seems that Samsung has done away with the 8GB memory variant for the Ultra, as all devices in the lineup now boast an impressive 12GB of memory.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra will start at $1299.

The more affordable models of Samsung’s Galaxy S smartphones have received an upgrade, too.

Similar to their higher-tier counterpart, both the Galaxy S24 and S24+ will be fueled by the cutting-edge Qualcomm mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The Galaxy S24 is notably more compact than the Ultra, featuring a 6.2-inch size with an FHD display. On the other hand, the Galaxy S24+ is only slightly smaller than the Ultra, measuring 6.7 inches, and shares the same QHD+ display.

Both smartphones are equipped with a trio of rear cameras: a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 50MP wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, alongside the 12MP front-facing camera.

The Galaxy S24, regardless of the selected 128GB or 256GB storage variant, comes with 8GB of memory. In contrast, the Galaxy S24+ offers a 256GB model and an additional 512GB storage option, both featuring a generous 12GB of memory. For users who may not miss the extra camera and enhanced photo quality of the Ultra, the Galaxy S24+ could offer a more cost-effective solution.

The base model of the Galaxy S24 starts at $799, while the Galaxy S24+ commences at $999.
